Obituary for David Martin Simmons
Martin Simmons, Jr., of Tyler, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2016 at the age of 70. Visitation for Mr. Simmons is scheduled from 5:30 - 7:00 PM on Sunday, January 10th at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. Recitation of the Rosary will follow at 7:00 PM.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 11th at 10:00 AM at the Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul with Bishop Joseph Strickland and Father Hank Lanik concelebrating.
David was born January 25, 1945 in Washington D.C. to David Martin Sr. and Mary Ruth Middleton Simmons. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1967 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. David married Rosmund Hart in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in December 1967. They moved to Sweeney, Texas where David worked for Phillips Petroleum Company. David transferred to Guayama, Puerto Rico, where he and Ro raised their family for thirteen years. After his tenure in Puerto Rico, they moved to Borger, Texas. Upon his retirement from Phillips 66, he and Ro moved to Tyler, where they have made their home for the last 16 years. He was an active member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and served as an usher at Sts. Peter and Paul Chapel.
David was preceded in death by his father, David Sr. and his brother, Robert.
He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 48 years, Rosmund; his children, Diana Alvarez and husband Javier of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; David III and his wife Heather of O’Fallon, Missouri; mother, Mary Ruth and sister, Carol Ann of Harvest, Alabama; brothers Tom Simmons of Callaway, Maryland and Frank Simmons of California, Maryland and John of Wildwood, Georgia; grandchildren, Alexis, Javier and Joaquin.
