Deana Detwiler December 10, 1944 - October 21, 2023

Another cherished member of our family has passed away. You will be missed Deana. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Obituary Deana Detwiler, 77, long-time resident of Marion and Morrow counties of Ohio, passed away on October 21, 2023. She was born on December 10, 1944, to Dean Baker and Naomi Cook in Marion, Ohio. Graduating as Valedictorian of her class in 1962 from Marion Harding High School, she later graduated from Ohio State with a Bachelors (Summa Cum Laude) and master’s in education. Deana taught in River Valley School system for almost 30 years, teaching Kindergarten, 6th grade, 7th grade math and acting as Head Teacher at Martel Elementary for a short while. She also was President and Treasurer of the River Valley Teacher association as well as the Morrow County Retired Teachers Association. With a strong desire to participate in and help out the community, Deana was involved in a number of organizations outside of school. For over 30 years, she was Fiscal Officer for Canaan Township of Morrow County. She was also director of Ohio Township Association for 7 years. Deana, acting as Treasurer and one of the Board of Trustees, was instrumental in helping the MCO Water Company for Marion and Morrow Counties which brought treated water to rural areas. She attended Caledonia United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer. She also participated in many of the activities over the years and was instrumental in chartering cub/boy scouts at the church. In her spare time, Deana enjoyed visiting with family (hosted and participated in extended Baker family reunions), doing genealogy, reading, and watching Ohio State football. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dean Baker and Naomi Cook, and her brother, Ron Baker. She is survived by her children: Jon Simmons, Theresa (Kevin) Trout, and Eric (Gayle) Detwiler, son of Bob Detwiler. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A loving cremation and private family memorial is planned. In lieu of flowers, a positive contribution to community in her memory may be made.
